New! Follow Hashtags:
Leave it to Instagram to bring an awesome new feature out right before the holidays! It’s the perfect time to be posting holiday pictures and sharing the holiday cheer and now, follow hashtags!
Following hashtags gives you new ways to discover photos, videos and people on Instagram. Now it’s even easier to stay connected with the interests, hobbies, passions and communities you care about.
This will prove to be one of the most useable features in Instagram and will shift the landscape on how we use hashtags and Instagram in general.
Improve Instagram’s Engagement
This has large implications for influencers, ambassadors, any marketer, and any business owner. The reason is this. It is now possible to use Instagram without following any user accounts at all. Enter the classic trolling user.
This could eventually reduce the value attached to having large numbers of followers (aka influencers) while shifting the emphasis more towards total numbers of likes and interactions. This is Instagram’s attempt to reward engagement and interaction over eyeballs on a post.
On the other hand, being able to get your posts seen by a new broad audience of people searching for the same thing you are creating posts about, should be an excellent way of picking up new followers for yourself. For anyone in the content marketing world, Instagram’s new follow hashtags feature will prove to be very useful to showcase blog posts and share content in general. It’s now more important than ever to choose your hashtags wisely.
Searching before the follow hashtag update
Before, you could find content on Instagram in three main ways: tap explore and see a curated feed of Instagram posts, search for hashtags or related hashtags on a subject, or you could follow the accounts of people you like.
How to follow a Instagram Hashtag (from Instagram):
Following a hashtag is just like following a friend. To get started, search for a topic you’re interested in or tap on a hashtag from any post. You’ll see relevant hashtags displayed in your search results along with related accounts. When you find a hashtag you like, open the hashtag page and tap on the follow button. You’ll begin seeing top posts from that hashtag in your feed and some of the latest stories in your stories bar. You can always unfollow a hashtag at any time.
To give you more ways to find hashtags you might like, you can check out the hashtags other people follow in their profiles. Similar to people you follow, hashtags you follow respect your privacy settings. If you set your account to private, the hashtags you follow will only be visible to your followers.
